Editorial Review for Dance Alloy – by Tatiana Zadony
The Scene
People in Pittsburgh seem slightly scared of modern dance and stick with comfortable classics such as ballet. Dance Alloy claims once people are introduced to modern dance, they come back. While the studio is not exactly in the best neighborhood in Pittsburgh, door security helps keep it problem free. The studio on the ground floor has a sunken feeling to it, with second floor office windows peering down on a special rubberized floor. The upstairs dance studio has a traditional wooden floor and plenty o' sunshine.
The Concept
Dance Alloy has 15-20 high quality instructors, many who teach with live accompanyment in a nurturing, safe environment. The school focuses more on the process of dance and less on the product; support rather than competition and recitals.
The Dance
Right now, hip-hop classes are the latest rage. Dance Alloy offers 3 hip-hop classes; teen, adult and street hop, which has African dance roots. Yoga and Middle Eastern dance classes are also in high demand.

After one term of Modern Dance, (the first dance class I've ever attempted), I am happy to report that Dance Alloy is a wonderful environment with professional dance instructors who continually maintain a positive spirit toward learning. Throughout instruction on technique and strengthening, the emphasis was always on creating a new awareness of movement. I feel more graceful and definitely more physically toned. Overall the class was an excellent experience that I would recommend to anyone who wishes to learn Modern Dance.
Pros: Affordable classes, Friendly teachers and staff, Solid technique instruction
