Editorial Review for Kelly's bar and lounge – by Kristy M. Graver
In Short
This smoky little cocktail lounge serves up big drinks and greasy burgers with a side of nostalgia. Walking through the door is like taking a step back in time, back to the era of poodle skirts and (a young) Elvis Presley. From the black-and-white checkered floor and cushy high-backed booths to the pink neon that illuminates this otherwise dim joint, Kelly's exudes a rebel-without-a-cause charm that keeps its loyal regulars coming back.

Fresh off the plane from NYC, a hard sell getting the local cab driver, Chaz, to take us to this part of town. Don't be put off: yes, you're gonna drive through some seamy hoods but fear not - you're going in the right direction and it is so worth the trip. This old school cocktail joint will not disappoint. With fab neon, vintage fixtures, hot sassy barmaids and cool crowd - you'll find equisite cocktails, killer 4-cheese macaroni and mouth watering burgers and steak fries and a post-punk-alt-country-80's-tinged duke-box which will set the tone for your third cocktail. Make the effort and you will be rewarded ten-fold. It's a $15 cab ride - 15 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. Don't hesitate. You'll love it!
Pros: old school flavor with new school appeal, coctail specials $4 martini tuesdays, hot sassy waitresses
Cons: scenic drive - but what the hell - you're not in disney now

Kelly's is great--very aesthetically appealing in that cool film noir style, but without being pretentious about it in the least. It's the only place in town I've found serving mojitos (nature's most perfect summer creation), and the food menu is small, but well-rounded and tasty. The service is always friendly and prompt, and they're even really nice about it if you accidentally elbow over your mojito... The crowd is a great mix of people, too--all sharing the secret of hanging out at the coolest place in town.
Pros: mojitos, great jukebox, all-around cool
Cons: closed on sundays-boo
