Simply the BEST Chimney Sweep in Pittsburgh!. After having my chimney cleaned in my previous home by another company (to remain nameless!), I was THOROUGHLY impressed by the Chimney Cricket. After calling on a Thursday, they were out THE NEXT DAY to make sure the chimney could be cleaned before having new gas logs installed the following week. The owner walked me through all of the services sharing the chimney as a vent (furnace, water heater, etc) and pointed out a couple of areas to budget for sometime down the road. But he was EXTREMELY knowledgeable and not pushy in the least. I will be using the Chimney Cricket for years to come!

Chimney Cricket... meh..... We'd just purchased a house and needed a chimney sweep to clean our chimney. We had the chimney inspected along with our home inspection, but needed to have it cleaned before we used it - this was our first house and our first fireplace, so we were pretty excited about it!

After a good bit of price shopping and review reading, we chose to use Chimney Cricket to have our fireplace cleaned. The scheduling process was easy and their availability was pretty open. They were able to make an appointment within a week during a very peak season.

We made an appointment for early on a Sunday morning. Unfortunately, this is where our experience kind of falls apart. Of the 2 gentlemen that came in, one did not speak to us at all (even after a "good morning" with eye contact as he walked into the house), and the other spoke such broken English that we could barely understand what he was telling us.

I've read that chimney sweeps are notorious for upselling people on repairs and improvements to their fireplaces, so I was very leery of the broken-English speaking gentleman told me that I have to buy some kind of flap for the inside of my fireplace and that there was a hole (??) somewhere that was catching water and debris..... I think. Again, very hard to understand.

He left us with a clean fireplace and the understanding that we were in a good not great position. Given the hole and flap info, when we asked him if it was safe for us to USE the fireplace he gave us the very specific advice of "yes... small fire ok... small fire."

On his way out when we were settling the bill, he gave us a total that was $10 more than what we were quoted on the phone and we had to correct him.

All in all it was a less than mediocre experience. We've been keeping to our "small fire" advice not wanting to spend another almost $200 on another cleaning/inspection, but I think that it's safe to say that we will not be calling them to come back next year.

The real thing!. Great experience. Suggested ventless gas fireplace as a much less expensive alternative to completely refurbishing the interior of our chimney. Arrived when they said he was going to arrive, did the work as they said, protected our personal property from dust and dirt and clean up spotlessly. A true craftsmen who takes pride in a job well done. We wouldn't hesitate in having Chimney Cricke back or referring them to our friends or neighbors. It is worth waiting that one extra day to hear what Chimney Cricket has to say before deciding on which company to do your work.

best bang for your buck. I recently needed work done to my chimney for the new year. I contacted numerous chimney cleaners to see who had the most to offer for the best price. Chimeny Cricket not only had the best price by far, they were on site only hours after I called. They did a great job cleaning and inspecting my chimney, the owner also helped me install my new fireplace doors at no extra cost. Top notch service for the best price in the Burg, a must for all fireplace owners.

Certified? By Whom?. Checked CSIA Certified Chimney Sweeps website and they are not listed. Who are they Certified by?

They installed wrong sized top-mounted damper restricting fireplace flue by 1/3. Fireplace had gas logs...not a healthy scenario.

Claims wood under fireplace hearth with no masonry between is acceptable????

Chimney Cricket Pittsburgh Rocks. I called Chimney Cricket on a Wednesday in March 2010 to see if they could clean my chimney Friday of that week. This was extremely short notice but the weather forecast was for a nice weekend and my plan was to reline the chimney and install a fireplace insert.. I was advised to have the chimney cleaned prior to relining. The owner of Chimney Cricket agreed to fit me into his busy schedule. The owner and his assistant arrived and spread large sheets on my living room carpet and then brought in their equipment. Much to my surprise they never needed to go up on the roof. The entire job was done from inside the fireplace where they run brushes up the full length of the chimney. A powerful vacuum keeps any dirt or dust from entering the living area. The job was very fast, efficient and the workers left no mess whatsoever. I would highly recommend Chimney Cricket if you need your chimney cleaned.

AMAZING COMPANY !!!! RECOMMEND THEM TO EVERYONE. We had many other company's out here to figure out a water leaking problem. Everyone always tried to do something but it never worked. After Chimney cricket came out and noticed we needed to repair the flashing a put a large chimney cover on, we decided to let them do the work, and after they have completed the work we never had water in our house again!! I was very happy with there price and how they handle all of there work with care. I would recommend Chimney Cricket to everyone!!
