Blah, yuck and everything in between. I don’t normally write reviews, but my Tom’s Diner experience recently was so appalling, I feel compelled to write one.

I have read bad reviews about Tom’s in the past, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. After my experience I’m really wishing I hadn’t.

First of all, the service is absolutely abysmal. When we asked the waitress for a few extra minutes to decide what we wanted she literally stood us. What is that about?

Then of course the waiting game begins. It was a long, long wait to utter disappointment. My waffle was disgustingly soggy and cold. The waitress at this point was of course completely MIA. When she finally returned I said something about the waffles and she said “well we can stick it in the microwave for you” ... as if that’s going to make them less soggy. And of course even though I didn't eat them, she charged me for them any ways.

My bf had an omelet which was runny and cold, and pancakes, which were tough and dense as hell. How can you F up pancakes?

In any case my experience was over all less then sub par, and I will definitely not be returning. I implore you to listen to the negative reviews, this place is a waste of time, and a waste of money. Overall very, very disappointing.

Great food. The food was out very quick. The servers were very nice. Best food on the south side at night by far. After the bar this s the place to be. I will be back again.

What is going on with this place?!. I tried this place a few times and every time I left dissapointed. The service is horrible and the food is bland and not worth the money or the time waiting for it. Also since they merged with folinos the menu is odd and the atmosphere in folinos is awkard. If someone is in the bar, women have to walk thru the "nice resturant" and into where the employees are just to use the restroom. I think the owners are confused and just don't care about this establishment and I am so surprised people even still enter toms diner and folinos doors!

Absolutely awful place to spend any amount of money or time. Tom's diner is a 24 hour eating establishment which already clues you in to not expect quality cuisine. So just as you would imagine for a 24 hour diner the food is mediocre and incredibly overpriced with the bonus chance of making you feel sick for days. Their service is unacceptably slow and they refuse to split a check. They claim their system is incapable of splitting a check which is at least within the realm of possibility. A sign or any for of indication would maybe make this somewhat acceptable. Although if you alert them before your meal that you would like your orders to be put in separately so that the check splitting will not be a problem they still refuse. So if you are going with a group of friends you better all sit at different tables because apparently they can't possibly consider each person at a table as separate customers. For a business in the South Side capitalizing completely on the bar hoping life style it is utterly unacceptable for them to not accommodate groups of people to come in and easily eat together. So if you are desperately in need of sustenance and no other place on earth is open and you and your buddies all have cash (remember if one of you has a credit card your completely screwed) and you have the time to upchuck poorly cooked eggs and meats all the following day then toms diner may be an option for you.

Gone way downhill. I can't stand it since it's moved next door. Much smaller. Long booths along one wall have you sitting about 6 inches from the next table. Walking space to the tables is about a foot wide with chairs on either side. All non-smoking. Definite change of crowd. Used to be my favorite place to go on a weekend morning for a good breakfast and maybe some recovery time after a night out. As soon as I sat down when I went most recently, I wanted to leave. I'll have to find a new diner now, a real diner. This place has really sold out.

Good breakfast, not the bomb-diggity.. We had breakfast here after reading the citysearch reviews, and I have to say when it comes to the "taste" of the food, it was perfect. The cinnamon French toast is fabulous! However, our waitress was very hurried/frantic, and this probably added to her less-than-personal service. It was a Sunday morning and this place was packed, I'll give her some slack for that. However, the food would have been much better if it had been hot. Eggs and potatoes lose their luster after reaching a certain temperature. For potatoes, opt for hash browns rather than home fries. Several in our party were disatisfied with the home fries due to being undercooked. Maybe going when it is less busy would result in a better experience. Overall, I was disappointed.

Decent. I had breakfast... it was decent. My boyfriend thought the same of his food. I would go back there and recommend it but I am not going to rave about it!

Editorial Review by Christy Buena. All day breakfast, large portions and classic sandwiches and milkshakes attracts locals to the family-friendly diner.

Top diner in Pittsburgh. What a find! My friends and I accidentally stumbled across this little gem one night after a night at the bars. We've been back numerous times since then. Open 24 hours, it's convenient any time of the day. Stop in for lunch, dinner, or a late-night snack. The prices are competitive and perhaps slightly more than your typical diner, but it's more than worth it. I'm not sure how they do it, but meals are on your table just minutes after the time you order. Food is served in hearty portions, and the servers will always keep your drinks refilled. I've never seen the place packed (which is surprising), so stretch your legs and bask in the roomy booths. This is also a great place to bring a large group of friends. Push a few tables together, and enjoy a great meal.
