What People Are Saying About Le Pommier

In Short – While Le Pommier is housed on East Carson Street, one of the busiest and noisiest in the city, all is tranquil inside the restaurant. Decorated in French-country style, its rooms are soft and warm. Menus are seasonal--expect dishes like beet risotto garnished with sauteed sea scallops. Memorable desserts may include traditional profiteroles au chocolat, cream puffs filled with French vanilla ice cream and dark-chocolate sauce.
Alright food service could be better

The only thing French about it was the waiting staff with French attitudes. I had the Truitte Almondine which was alright but I could have ordered better fish at a chain restaurant. The rest of the party did not enjoy their dinner at all. They were turned off by the fact that we were told several times that we had to finish our dinner by 8:00 PM because another party had reservations. We eat out frequently all over Pittsburgh at small restaurants and after this experience we will not be returning here.
What more Pittsburgh restaurants should aspire to

I've eaten at a number of establishments in this city and most times I walk away disappointed. However, I can happily say that I walked away quite pleased from Le Pommier. In many restaurants the wait staff mistake good service for not leaving you alone long enough to even get a bite in. The service here was pleasant but you weren't shooing your waiter away just so you could eat. The food itself was quite good and the house wine selection was excellent.
As for the poor reviews, I can presume every restaurant has a bad night and perhaps a few bad servers now and again, but I wouldn't let that scare you off. It's not like you have a lot of choices for French cuisine in this city anyway.
I would say that even if you're not a fan of French food, you'd do well here and certainly find something enjoyable.
- Pros: Great food, excellent wine selections
- Cons: Small dining room

First time I ever ate at a french restuarant, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. We had the best waitress ever. She had a very calming voice and was always showed up at the perfect time, but not too often either. We had the escargot as an appetizer (first time) and it was amazingly good. I had Scallops and my girlfriend got steak. Both dishes were beautifully served, perfectly portioned, and expertly prepared. We finished up with the desert sampler, which offered a good variety but was somewhat unsatisfying.
- Pros: Food, Service
- Cons: not the prettiest interior
