Editorial Review for Moio's Italian Pastry Shop – by Sam Edelmann
The Scene
In his little shop in Monroeville, Tony Moio is putting out some fine baked goods, and not just the Italian favorites. It is basically a bakery, though there are a table and chairs, and coffee is available.
The Sweets
The tortes are good here, especially the chocolate and black forest, for chocaholics. Pies of note include Boston cream, key lime, and coconut cream. The Italian items do steal the show. Sfogliatelle is a crisp breakfast pastry filled with ricotta, and is not to be missed. The tradititional Cannoli are filled to order, making for a crispy shell. You can get half plain, half chocolate for the best of both worlds. There are a wide variety of layered pastries, like Napoleons, and coconut lovers will go wild over the macaroons.

I feel compelled to share what a fabulous place this is. All the pastries I have tried are fresh and delicious, just like in the old country, The sfogliatelle is out of this world. The owner and his staff are so welcoming and friendly that every time we visit we feel like we are back home. Their selection is huge, which is nice as we never know what we will have until we are there. My wife actually brought home some cannoli from Moio's and told me it was home made. I believed her until she told me. If you are a pastry lover do yourself a favor and check this place out, you'll be glad you did.
Pros: Everything
Cons: I can't have every day

I'm a very picky eater and I absolutely loved everything I've tried at Moio's. It's a very clean place with one of the largest selection of deserts in Pittsburgh. The eclairs are to die for.
