The Skinny – Rachel Carson's 1962 book, "Silent Spring," launched an entire generation into a previously unknown wave of consciousness regarding the inter-dependency of living things on earth, and is considered by many to be one of the most important books ever written. Much of Carson's respect for nature came from spending her youth on the five-room farmhouse in Springdale. Today, the house is a National Historic Site, and visitors can tour the house and grounds.
