NEVER AGAIN – This isn't the first time my family has gone to this restaurant. 6 or 7 years ago had an extremely bad dining experience and vowed never to go back ~ but a family member told us it was now under new management so we relucantly agreed to go.
We arrived at the restaurant at 5:45 and there was only 1 other table (of 2 people) seated. It was my mother-in-
laws birthday and this is where she wanted to go. So our table consisted of 12 family member (2 of those were my grandchildren ages 1 and 4 years). So we all place our drink order and ordered our meals. We specifically stated that these were separate checks. No problem we were told.
Since they didn't have "childrens menus" available, the waitress told us what was available. (I paid $6.99 for my grandsons (1year old) grilled cheese sandwich and fries-this was supposed to come with a drink but since he already had his sippy cup we didn't order him one and the waitress never told us this was supposed to come with a drink)
Our food slowly came out of the kitchen......almost everything was cold. Cold french fries for the kids. Cold/burnt lamb for the greek salad. Now keep in mind this is about 7:25 when we finally got our food. The restaurant was not busy. Sitting there so long we were able to clearly see the other tables in the restaurant. A family of 4 came in and another famiy of 3. So total all night there were only 19 patrons in the restaurant from 5:45 to 8:15 when we finally left. To say the least they weren't busy. In fact we were able to clearly see the employees outside smoking (1 of which was the cook - I know only since I spoke to the manager the next day and described the employee). The wedding soup was watered down and luke warm. The only good thing we had was the warm pita bread which the waitress brought out 1 plate of for our large table.
Finally the check comes ~ and everything is on one check. Just anxious to finally leave, I paid the bill. My family tried several times to voice our displeasure with the owner.......he never returned my phone calls.
Pittsburgh is loaded with fantastic greek festivals with authentic greek food......locate any of them and enjoy the delicious food from that country.....
Double for your money – We had a fantastic experience. Food was great. service was great. very prompt. food was served very speedily. i will definitely return. fair prices and large portions topped with great service will keep me returning. thanks Little Athens of Sewickley!
Dishonest – Excellent Food. Excellent Service. They do not honor the Entertainment Card nor the Enjoyment Book. Never going back. If they don't honor them, they shouldn't be in the books. It's false advertising.
Great Food – This place has great food. Be prepared for crappy service. The service staff is very nice, just not very organized. Seem to be a free for all on who waits on you.
However, the service can be over looked because the food really is that good.
A simple but tasteful restaurant serving good Greek fare. – The Scene
Just one large room, with no bar, Little Athens is a family-style restaurant open for breakfast through dinner. There is a full menu for each meal, with Greek specialties as well as limited American fare. The food is nicely prepared, portions are large, and service is homey and pleasant.
The breakfast menu offers a wide range of three-egg omelets, including the venerable Greek: gyro meat, tomatoes, and feta cheese, served with toast and homefries. There are also Belgian waffles, pancakes, and egg sandwiches.
Lunch centers around sandwiches and salads, with lamb and chicken gyros, souvlaki (shish-ka-bob), and an interesting eggplant hoagie with provolone cheese and Greek dressing. The traditional green salad, with feta, cucumber, olives, etc. is nice and is also available with gyro meat and excellent french fries served on top.
Dinners, while not inexpensive, offer copious quantities of food. Each dinner comes with two sides, and soup is one which shouldn't be overlooked. Both the avgolemano (chicken lemon with pastina) and the soup of the day are homemade and very good. The standard pastitsio and moussaka are available daily, as are gyro, souvlaki (lamb or pork), and stuffed grape leaves.
