Horrible Service, Horrible Treatment, Average Food

by ROLLINHGH57 at Citysearch

With hundreds and hundreds of restaurants in the Pittsburgh area its very difficult to even begin to gauge or review the quality of cuisine whenever your interaction with staff or even worse management leaves you with indigestion before even being seated. After being a patron of this restaurant for a few years and regardless that their food is subpar compared to a Jade Gardens, Asian Star, Hunan, Kiyoshi, Mins Town, I like to support the town in which I live. However, after putting up with extremely discourteous people it becomes difficult to give my business to an establishment which does not respect the very people who keep their doors open everyday. I would inform the patrons of sewickley to save themselves the discomfort, and agravation. The ability of locals to CHOOSE not to patron an establishment will eventually lead to the closing and reopening of new businesses. Overtime this will result in a turnover of badly run, rudely operated, subpar restaurants thus leaving businesses which WE can enjoy considering that it is OUR town that they operate within.

That being said, the General Tso's is less than fair. Breading is soggy and mushy, chicken with little white meat than there should be, sauce has little to no flavor, lack of broccoli or vegetable makes it even more unappealing.

Eggrolls are bland with bad dough. The cabbage is of poor quality.

The only dish I have seemed to like is the shredded beef with Szechuan Sauce. Vegetables are usually cooked well with a crisp to them, sauce is average, beef of poor quality.

Also they have a 15$ minimum order fee for delivery which I can assure you they adhere to with disregard for the amount of years you have given them business or if your order totals $14. 99. They do not care for their customers, they do not care for peoples opinion of their food. Frankly they should not be in business and do not deserve the time of day from locals as considerate, and well resepected as Sewickley. Keep Sewickley nice, dont buy from China Palace.

Very Rude

by smalltownpoet at Citysearch

My wife and I walked into the reseteraunt last night after a long day and was treated extremely rudely by the MANAGER of the resteraunt. I walked in first just to make sure that they were open and was not even acknowledged by him as he stood behind the counter talking to one of the servers. Their were other people inside so I did assume that it was still open and walked back to the door just to check on the opening and closing times. I saw that they were open until 9:30 and it was just a little after nine so we went in.

Upon, unpacking the car and returning asking for a table for 2 and a highchair the server went and got him to seat us. He came and was extremely rude and while walking to the table said "decide want you want quickly were closing". In a very rude way, I worked in the resteraunt industry and still work in the hospitality industry, and understand that at closing that the last thing you want to see is customers at closing.

However, their are PLENTY of other ways to say things that are not quite so rude. May I suggest, "I'm sorry our last seating is at 9". Or if I was acknowledged when I walked in the first time I wouldn't have even come in with my family. Needless to say I turned around and walked out I am not risking good food getting spit in because I arrived after their liking.

  • Pros: Looks niceinside
  • Cons: Terrible service

One of the top chinese places in Pittsburgh!!!

by ktan953 at Citysearch

I grew up in sewickley and I love this place!! It's the one place my friends and I could always hang out. They have amazing food and fast service! This place gives me a cozy feeling of home. Their menu always have a great variety of food with their seasonal specials giving us a refreshing touch. Unlike big places, the owners are always there to welcome you with a warm smile. As an extra plus, they not only serve chinese food but japanese (sushi) as well.

  • Pros: Great food, awesome service
  • Cons: Menu is a little expensive

Such a shame...

by gleipher at Citysearch

I've been going to the China Palace for a few years. I recall 3 or so years ago they served exceptional quality food - not the cheapest prices but everyone was more than happy to pay a little extra.

In recent times the restaurant has really gone downhill. The menu (and prices) are still the same as years ago, but the quality is really, really poor. Most menu items taste as though they're all coated in the same mysterious orange 'sauce'.

I don't know anyone who still frequents the place. Also, the interior of the restaurant has suffered along with the quality of the food.

  • Pros: nice size store, fair range of food, friendly service
  • Cons: very poor quality, grubby store
