Cleanliness Not a Strong Suit. The food is pretty good but the place is just not kept clean. The carpets are very soiled which is not a pleasant start. We had dirty utensils (cheapest I've ever seen by the way), my wife's water glass had lipstick on it and there were crusty sauce stains on our tablecloth.
Great Steaks!!. My son and I had the most wonderful meal here last night. Our Charbroiled Black Angus Steaks were great! As good as the steaks I had in Chicago. Our salads were fresh and crisp with homemade salad dressing, served with warm toasted garic bread. Our waitress Anna took care of our every need. Outdated decor, but very relaxing, causual dress and great prices. Finished our meal with homemade pumpkin cheecake, Yum. Can't wait to return for the Surf and Turf!
Very OLD AND DIRTY - Food Too Expensive!. This restaurant has not been updated or CLEANED since it opened. Terrible decor and atmosphere. The food was just okay , for what it costs. The seafood is way over done. They give you a choice of two french onion soups - one without cheese, and the other augratin. Who ever has had french onion soup called augratin. The waitress argued that they always serve this soup with two options. Only Winchester, with an added cost for the cheese. It was terrible. Never will go back!
The Best Steak and Seafood around.
We have been visiting the Winchester Room for years. It is a little expensive but well worth it. You may have to wait if you forget to book a reservation!
THE BEST LOBSTER BISQUE IN THE PITTSBURGH AREA!!! There are a few things that are not on the menu. The sirloin tips melt in your mouth, chicken salad with homemade salad dressings. YUMMY
We often purchase discount tickets for the Destinta movie theater across the street and make it an evening out.
Ponderosa Steakhouse quality at Morton's Steakhouse price. My husband and I wanted to take our grandparents out for their 45th anniversary. Our friend recommended this place, as it was close to our house and was reasonably priced as steakhouses go. Here is why we do NOT recommend this place for anything other than an overpriced steak. 1. Paper placemats, semi-broken tables, plastic salad bowls and dirty bathrooms. Someone tell the management to invest a few $$ on appearance and maintenance! 2. The food was downright average for >$20 a plate. My tuna steak was drier than the Mojave desert and other's baked potatoes were cold. The 'famous' lobster bisque was quoted as being 'too much velveeta, too little lobster" by one of my family members. 3. Too few waitresses per section - we waited far too long for drink refills, food and the bill. Go elsewhere!
Yummy!. I love the Winchester Room! I've never had a bad experience. They offer valet parking which makes up for a small parking lot. It is worth tipping the valet guys a couple bucks. Their steaks are juicy and very flavorful. My favorite is their french onion au-gratin! It is the best I've had and I dine out a lot. The dessert is to die for. My favorite is the warm apple pie which my waitress suggested. The service, as usual, was excellent and friendly. I highly suggest visiting the Winchester Room. You can't beat the price!
NOT a great place for steaks (or for good service). My husband and I visited this restaurant after hearing good things about it. The parking lot is small and cramped (along with dangerous for walking in heels, the pavement is broken and it's dimly lit!). We waited at the already small and crowded bar and were ignored for quite awhile before being offered drinks. After being seated at our table no one acknowledged us for 10 minutes, a waitress finally did tell us she would be over soon, which took another 5 minutes. (At this point I began to watch the time) We ordered a bowl of french onion soup and each of us got the New York strip steak rare. 10 more minutes go by before the hostess finally brings our drinks to the table. I ordered a carafe of wine which she set in front of me with my glass and said, "You can pour this." and walked off. So as we're sipping our drinks and realizing we've now been seated for 45 minutes and haven't even gotten the soup or salads. Our waitress appears and tells us that the kitchen forgot to put my soup in. We then asked if we could at least get our salads to which she seemed dumbfounded and said, "Oh, you want your salads?" She immediately came back with our salads and miraculously the soup. I have to say the soup was the highlight of the evening, it was delicious. The salads were decent portions, but the garlic bread was 2 tiny pieces. The Italian dressing tasted like only oil. We are now going on over an hour and finally our steaks arrive. They were done medium rare, which I can live with. But what I just couldn't even choke down was that they were dry. I'm still trying to figure out how you can dry out even medium rare. It had absolutely NO flavor. Our thoughts at the beginning of this evening was that it's a steakhouse and fairly hard to make steak terrible so we couldn't go wrong. This place proved us wrong. To top it off as we're trying to get the bill and speaking to our waitress she leaves while I'm in mid sentence to help another table. We'll never be back.
Editorial Review by Christy Buena. Restaurant serves all-American cuisine including steaks, pastas, seafood and offers a classy atmosphere.
Friendly service, best well done steaks, and scampi in town!!!!. I frequent this restaurant on a weekly basis, and I must say the most impressive thing about it is its consistency. Everytime I go everything is so fresh and well prepared. I know other places have their moments but that is all that they have while the Winchester Room keeps the one constant and that is dependable quality. I am a very picky eater and I like everything well done but not overcooked and they do a beautiful job with balancing the two.
Best Steakhouse in Pittsburgh. If you want to feast your eyes on something beautiful as well as delicious, then you would benefit greatly by visiting The Winchester Room. Their steaks, from first appearance have a particular luster and are the juiciest, most perfect tasting meats. Nothing tastes better than a big, thick Black Angus Steak. Throw in a piece of cheesecake with hot apricot rum sauce for dessert, a beautifully romantic candlelit ambiance, and you have the best place to eat in Pittsburgh. No matter how you like them done, from rare to well, they never ruin the steak. You will be delighted from the time you step in the door until you leave.
