yummmm. bethel bakery is a wonderful bakery! delicious cakes and creative decorations are only a couple of reasons i go there! the coffeecake is to die for! and the chocolate cookies are fantastic!
Very Happy with Service!. We were referred to Bethel Bakery by the Sheraton Station Square. What a blessing! From 300 miles away and over the phone, Anita and Jackie took care of my order. They were friendly and helpful. Accepted my calls every single time I called. Listened to my ideas, and made the 100th Anniversary cake just as I imagined. They delivered it to the hotel for the convention. The pictures and comments from the guests told me that all was perfect. Our full-size sheet cake was very beautiful with our company logo on it. The cake was decorated exactly as specified. It was also very good tasting. The price was absolutely reasonable. It was well worth it!!
Embarrassed by the Cake!.
I used to love Bethel Bakery until I ordered my son's first birthday cake from them(July 2010). I drove 45 mins. in the car to order the cake and to take a picture that I had for thedecorator to follow. The cake was a pretty easy design for a "Prince" theme in shades of blues and a little yellow. I paid $87.00 for a PURPLE cake, that looked like my preschooler had written on. "Happy 1st Birthday" was printed and UNCAPITALIZED. It looked like they ran out of room so my son's name was scrunched to fit. The piping and the crown on the cake were uneven and off centered. It basically looked like a cake from someone's kitchen.
My friend had the same Prince theme, got the cake from Costco for $17.00 and it was cuter than my $87.00 one.
The cake itself was fresh and able to be eaten. When I complained they credited me $25.00 . Needless to say, they are not going to see me again. Wasn't worth the travel time or the money. I now agree with the other reviews and I think they are overrated. I was very disappointed and I don't think that I am difficult to please, I just can't relive my son's first birthday and I'm embarrassed to even put the pictures of his cake in a photo album!
bethel bakery is a good bakery period. their cakes are delicious and the family who owns it are down to earth good people.
want a good cake? do yourself a favor and come here, you will be welcomed!
Condescending/Overpriced. For some bizarre reason, Bethel people have gotten swept into Bethel Bakery mania. Go out and sample other cakes at wonderful local bakeries. You'll find them way more adaptable to your requests and the quality of the cakes are far superior. I had the occasion recently to compare two cakes: One from Bethel Bakery and the other from Shop' n Save. The freshness and moistness of the cake was no comparison to BB. Our cake was baked and frosted in the same day. Not so with BB (or at least it tasted like a dry, de-thawed cake with whipped crisco frosting.) Wake up folks! There are other shows in town with superior quality at half the price.
Very rude service, bad pastries.
I was looking for a place to have my Wedding Cake made at, and of course, Bethel Bakery came very highly recommended. I went and sampled a few cookies, cupcakes, and even had a regular cake made, (was getting stuff for a going away party). The pastries were AWFUL! I have tasted better pastries from Giant Eagle or other bakeries for a much better price.
At the same time, I tried to arrange to have an appointment to look at cakes and plan that portion of things. The people behind the counter couldn'tve been less helpful. After being completely ignored for ten minutes, when I was finally able to get someones' attention, the first person told me that I didn't "look" like someone who would be able to afford a wedding cake from them!
The second person went and got the date book, but miraculously, all my available openings to make an appointment were booked! (Out of 5 days during the week where I am available all day, they had no openings on any of those days...) But someone came in right behind me and scheduled an appointment for the exact same time I wanted, and they had no scheduling issues.
I wouldn't eat from Bethel Bakery if it was the LAST BAKERY ON EARTH!
I cannot belive this happened. they , in my knowledge of working there and being a customer have NEVER heard of a salesperson saying ANYTHING of the sort. something sounds fishy here.
The name is well known but taste is awful. I live in the South hills and Bethel bakery is very well known but the cake has very little taste and is always very dry! My kids would not even eat the choc. chips the frozen cookies in the freezer section are better.
The Place for a Heavenly Cake. This place makes the best cakes, I travel 45 minutes, to get these cakes. They are beautiful and are always fresh and the taste is excellent. I recomend the Choc. fudge icing and Chocolate cake, it is to die for.
"The Cake Place": a South Hills tradition for anything from birthdays to weddings..
"Baking special memories since 1955," Bethel Bakery has etched their names into Pittsburghers' minds as a place to make pastry wishes come true. Simple items like doughnuts, cookies and breads are handled expertly, but they're known for their elaborate cakes.
Their traditional filling is French buttercream with ground English walnuts, but additions range from chocolate to mango to red raspberry to apricot and more. Every tier has three levels of cake and two levels of icing. Adornments abound for the decorations, like waterfalls, lights and several cake toppers, to make it unique.
All prices depend on the size and type of cake, of course, but here's a sampling of the cost structure: a cake that would feed 75-80 people would be three tiers and would cost around $200. For a cake that would serve 300-320 guests, it would be four tiers and a total of $615. They recommend that you think of it as approximately $2 per slice/person. They also do grooms' cakes.
See them one year prior to the wedding and at the very latest, six months, to talk sizes and to taste test. They also require a $30 deposit. Then revisit two months from the date to finalize info on type and amount.
