A Job well done

I have been using Johnston's for ten years and I have had great service for all those years. I had a chimney fire and he did a video which help me with the insurance company. Johnston's has been honest and the work has always been outstanding. He has never lied or tried to take advantage of me and his pricing has always been competitive.

Deceitful Business Practices

This company is out to get as much money from you as they can regardless of whether it's true or not. I called for an estimate to have my chimney relined. They mailed me an estimate and I thought the material cost was high (because I had already done my research). So I looked up the same brand that they were charging for and found if I ordered it myself, I could save almost $600.00. Well that's almost 1/2 of what they were quoting for the material. So I called to see if I could just pay them for the labor and get my own materials (same brand that they use). Well the run around started, what if I didn't get everything I needed by ordering online? my answer was then you tell me what I'm missing and I'll get it. Gee, he then said he'd be willing to knock $200.00 off of the $640.00/ labor charge (I wanna know how you can take off 1/3 of your profit and remain in business?) When I reminded him that I'd still be paying almost $400.00 more than I should. The question became well what kind of insulation are you ordering when I responded wrap insulation he said oh well you can't use that you don't have the room you have to use pour insulation. At that point I reminded him that I had asked specifically when he was here what kind of insulation he would be using and he told me that I had plenty of room in my chimney so the would use wrap. Hmmm, now I'm catching him in straight lies and I told him so, he then brusquely told me I could pay what they wanted or find someone else to do it. That's exactly what I'm doing. I know everyone has to eat and I don't mind paying for a job well done, but don't try to rip me off I do my research so I don't get tricked. Be very aware of this company! Do your research and check to make sure they're not overcharging you.

They use the classic scheme of offering sale prices for the cleaning then use the opportunity in you home to conduct overly complicated inspections. They describe it using industry jargon to exagerate what is there. This is all to scare you into purchasing expensive rework. My chimney is well kept and as good as the day it was build. Stay away!
