Tips for Chef Dato's Table

Great food!. Everything I have had here has been good. (Although, I'm not too impressed with the entree salads.) Chambersburg Chicken is by far my favorite menu item. Service is always friendly and the desserts are HUGE (and delicious).

Happy to see the restaurant alive even after the chef's tragic death.

A joyful evening. Every evening at Chef Dato's Table is reminiscent of a lovely dinner party in your own home -- except the food is better!! The menu offers a wide variety of choices ... everything from sandwiches to gourmet meals and luscious desserts. The atmosphere is more upscale than jeans and t-shirts, yet comfortable and welcoming. The service is prompt and pleasant.

What makes The Table special, however, is Chef Dato. When he passes through the dining room, as he does often, you just know he is so happy to be your host. Chef wants you to enjoy your food and your overall experience. His warmth is apparent. His menu is imaginative and original, yet he is open to revising for your special needs or preferences.

If the previous reviewer had a problem with his ravioli, no one would have been more concerned about that than Chef Dato. I assure you he would have whisked that plate to the kitchen to remedy the problem, and offered his guest something to keep his appetite at bay in the meantime. Glitches happen. Good proprietors like Chef Dato make them right.

We are thrilled to have Chef in the Latrobe area and will continue to enjoy lunch and dinner with him often.

Oh my - stay away from here!. The baked brie starter was fine - but then, it's foolproof: bake some cheese, put toast around it, and drizzle raspberry sauce. My butternut squash ravioli did *not have any filling*!! That's right - the butternut squash ravioli lacked any butternut squash inside. My companion and I opened one up completely just to be sure: nothing but noodle. The phyllo apple kiwi pie (which supposedly got him into the Culinary Institute of America, but which should have got him kicked out) was pasty and thick, and the apples were undercooked and still crunchy; the plate was floating in yucky syrup. My companion's "prawns" contained exactly one prawn, and that undercooked and inedible. His grilled chicken caesar salad tasted fine, or at least the chicken did - but the romaine was disenchanting, and the plate looked like the food had hastily been tossed upon it. The whipped cheesecake dipped in chocolate tasted richly light and crunchy, although far too much cheap chocolate syrup was smeared on the plate. The white chocolate raspberry torte tickled our funny bone more than our palate - it looked like a top hat. Overall, an embarrassment for a "chef" while doing nothing to bring "unpretentious, fine dining" to the Derry-Latrobe area. How about more pretentions, more culinary integrity, and more respect for the customer? Empy ravioli indeed...for shame!

I'm guessing Chef Dato thinks he can pull the wool over people's eyes in this area. After all, there is not much fine dining in the Derry-Latrobe area, so the people dont really know any better. A real chef would be appalled at the substandard and frankly insulting fare (questionably cooked prawn? empty ravioli?).

Excellent. Heard about his new restuarant and tried it last weekend. Perfect!

Amazing!. This place is amazing! I am a fan of Chef Dato's from when he was at the Tin Lizzy. I am glad to see he is now making the same kind of food in a bigger place of his own. I haven't been there for Sunday brunch yet but that is something new.

Not Gourmen. Another want to be.

Tries unique/theme type specials but our experience was overcooked and tasteless.

Sandwiches were well prepared and "different".
