"Folino's is a relatively new place, done in that old-school Italian-American style -- with Frank Sinatra on the hi-fi, a menu touting "Mama's Marinara Sauce" and signs promoting a "Sopranos"-inspired wine dinner without a trace of irony. It has dark-red tablecloths, dark-red marinara, dim lighting and massive family-sized portions. You'll be taking some home -- probably a couple extra meals' worth. Folino's also does a credible Eggplant Parmesan ($12), which is harder than it seems. This comfort food classic had really thin, tasty eggplant, although it was encased in way too much breading.…

This place is a joke!

Folinos used to be a nice place to eat at until it merged with toms diner, now its just ridicilous! If a woman is at the bar, she has to walk thru folinos and into where the employees are to go to the restroom. Service is horrible and the food is not even average. Everything about this establishment is bad all around.
Outstanding service!

I run the Pittsburgh Sports League Running Group and we ran from Folino's tonight. It was a cold and rainy night and we returned chilled, thirsty, and very hungry. I had made a reservation and about 17 of us ate in the upstairs loft room - a great private area. I don't think we have ever had service as good as we did at Folino's. It was quick, friendly, and very very cooperative with a group of 17 tired, cold, hungry people. The complimentary bruschetta on the tables was gobbled quickly and the water glasses were always kept full as the servers ran up and down the stairs to keep the cold beer coming. The wedding soup was outstanding and served piping hot. I had the Greek entree salad which was fresh and enormous. Other diners had the pasta (they have whole wheat!) and the pizza and there were rave reviews all around. The highlight of the night, though, was our server James's patience and friendly demeanor. He was aided by two other outstanding servers whose names I did not get. He even offered separate checks without us having to ask. I would go back to Folino's anytime and would encourage anyone looking for a nice, but affordable place for a group outing to try it out!
- Pros: Service, atmosphere, affordability
- Cons: Southside parking - but not enough to deter another visit

The bed of spaghetti was definitely king-sized, but was cooked well with just the right amount of red sauce. If you actually want something not covered in red sauce, you could do worse than the signature Chicken Folino ($15)." -Tribune Review: (That's amore!) . By Michael Machosky
