Not your average hotel restaraunt!
by trevtnyc at Citysearch
I was told that Bigelow Grille was the only 4 star hotel restaraunt in Pittsburgh, and I can see why: it's lowkey but upscale ambience is spot on, nice host staff, some staff aren't as nice or attentive than others working there but the food makes up for it! I ate there for lunch, dinner and the weekend breakfast buffet and they all were excellent and the prices were very moderate for the upscale lunches and dinners I had. The buffet was only $12 all you can eat and it was one of the best I've ever had. I'd come here again even if i weren't staying at the Doubletree!
- Pros: Fabulous lunches and dinner, excellent value breakfast buffet, nice setting
- Cons: some staff weren't very nice or attentive, most were though!
Alchemy is Exceptional
by gmc234 at Citysearch
This review focuses specifically on the Alchemy dinner, which in my opinion is the best dining experience one can achieve in the city of Pittsburgh. Kevin Sousa's creations are original with magnificent presentation. He blends an amazing array of flavors and textures over the 15-16 courses of your meal. The wines and beers paired with the menu complement it well and tend to be quite unusual in their origins. Having had a similar style of meal at Moto in Chicago, I am amazed that Alchemy costs what it does for everything you get. Pittsburgh now boasts a variety of great restaurants such as the Big Burrito group, Nine on Nine, and Bona Terra but all pale in comparison to the splendor and outstanding value of Alchemy.
- Pros: The most unique and outstanding dining experience in the City of Pittsburgh
- Cons: Not for the non-adventerous, close-minded, or picky eaters
