My wife and I felt that the doctors and staff were exceptionally caring and attentive to our dog during his visit. They were extremely helpful in diagnosing my 11 year old dog. Dr. Smarick was very patient and more than willing to explain our options. Avets was a little bit more expensive than our regular vet, but worth it in our opinion.

Just an all-around great place! You could tell that the doctors and staff really care about your pet and want only the best for them! I've only had good experiences.

I took my dog Nellie to Avets because she looked to be in pain while trying to go the bathroom. The medical staff was extremely caring and accommodating during the examination. The doctor was very positive through the entire process and reassured me they would find out what was wrong with her. That ended up being the case. They found out that Nellie had a bad urinary tract infection and immediately treated it. I am extremely happy and relieved that my dog is back to her normal, playful self. No one likes to see their animal suffer.

My wife and I recently relocated to Western PA. We took our 4 year old chocolate lab, Milly, to the hospital because she kept throwing up and couldn't hold down any food. Not knowing what it was we felt it best to take her to a vet. After several hours later and some medicine, she is doing much better now. We were both very impressed with the hospital staff and it's general cleanliness. We would more than likely return to AVETS, should an another emergency arise.

Very pleased with the level of service! Took my dog here a several weeks ago. He had some issues urinating. Ended up being some bladder stones. My wife and I elected to get the surgery for him. The surgery was successful. He is doing much better now and almost back to his old self!

I wanted to pass along some important information. I took Rudy to AVETS yesterday. After his diagnosis, they told me he needed it drained. I asked what was the max cost for the procedure and was told 50 dollars. When it was done they told me 140 (and this was on top of the 120 fee to walk in the door.

When I protested I was basically told that it's 270 right now to get my dog back. They made me wait 45 minutes till I paid.

This is the worst kind of scum. They take advantage of people who are already upset and rake them over the coals. I had no recourse if I wanted my dog back.

Please take your beloved animal else where to a place where the animal comes first not the almighty dollar. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Oh and my dog isn't any better. A special place in HELL for these awful people. I am calling the BBB to complain.

Extremely pleased with Avets services. We are extremely pleased with Avets services. We have been to other vets in the area in the past and they are not nearly as thorough as Avets. My husband and I do not have a problem paying a little more for the emergency service, if we know our pets are getting the highest quality of care. Everyone at Avets was extremely nice to us during our dog emergencies over the past couple of years.

Expensive but the care was great. Took our cat there due to a urinary blockage. Wait was somewhat long, however, they took great care of him. We did end up having to hospitalize him for a few days. During his stay we felt welcome to call or visit at anytime of day or night. The staff, especially Mary Anne, nurses and Drs. were awesome. They seemed to truly care about the animals they were caring for. The accommodations were very nice. We were able to speak with a Dr. each time we visited. They took as much time as we wanted in a private room. The Drs. and nurses also kept in touch w/ us by phone. I highly recommend for emergency care. They are quite expensive and do require payment before anything is done. However, we were able to apply for CareCredit on-site and get approved. While I do say they are expensive I also understand that they are an emergency care facility and that is not cheap but I can see where some folks may have a lot of trouble b/c not everyone can afford or qualify for credit. Payment plans would be helpful. I do recommend them highly.

BEWARE AVETS. Please do not take your pet here. We love our pets and wouldn't take them to the ER if we didn't. My dog nearly dies from dehydration while in the care of DR. Barbara Maton. The Dr. failed to provide and recommend a fluid IV for nearly 6 hours even though he had a temperature of 104.7. I consulted with several other Vet's who questioned the tests that were done and the failure on their part to performe more relevant tests. There was never any treatment or diagnosis given after eight hours at AVETS. My dog "Enzo" almost didn't make it to see our Vet during regular business hours due to severe dehydration. Please do research there are other places to take your animal in the Pittsburgh area. I filed a grievance with AVETS and they responded by covering for DR. Maton. If you must use this place ask questions and consult with a more experienced and committed professional while your sick animal is being cared for.

Excellent service... but a little slow. We took our 17 month old corgi in today because he got a piece of glass and we couldn't be sure he hadn't swallowed some. We saw Dr. Dinger. She was wonderful with Kirby, very efficient and loving toward him. She took x rays and did a thorough exam of his mouth, throat and paws to be sure that he didn't have glass in them. She showed us his x rays and I appreciated the time she took to show us everything in great detail. I felt as though they did a good job with my dog in explaining things to me and my family. My only problem was the amount of time we spent there... nearly 4 hours. I've had animals get x rays before, and I think we should have been in and out in half that time. It didn't seem terribly busy (but I'll grant that it was the first time I've been there), and since they are a 24 hours emergency clinic, I would have thought they would have been better equipped to deal with cases such as ours in a shorter amount of time. Other than the time spent, I felt as though this was a good experience.
