Great Ribs!!. Not sure why anyone would write a bad review. This place is one of my favorites. The ribs are without a doubt the best in Pgh. I've been eating here since it was on the dark side of Carson. The new location is great and the food has never disappointed me or anyone with me. Try it for yourself. This is the first review I've ever written because I never felt a need 'till now. The reviews here are a travesty. Try it for yourself. Oh and the owner is always there and never been anything but nice and gracious.
Mantini's : Where the customer is always wrong. Six of us went to Mantini's last night for steak, and all of our steaks were overdone. My friend politely told the waitress that his steak was overcooked, and the next thing you know, the owner/chef came over to our table and angrily told our friend that his steak was done perfectly. He did not take it back or make any effort to address the issue....he just yelled at us. It was completely outrageous behavior, and the poor waitress was very apologetic. Normally, I would ask for a manager, but this guy owns the place, and apparently is cool with treating his patrons like crap. We won't go back. Go somewhere where the food is better, and they care about their customers.

God forbid you ever have an issue or don?t get what you ordered at this restaurant. The other night I was at Mantini?s or should I call it Meantini?s for a work related dinner with a business associate from out of town. I must admit, the atmosphere is nice for the South Side and the service and entrees have always been excellent. Unfortunately, this last visit, and trust me this will be my last, was unfortunate and embarrassing. As I was ready to just accept the fact that my 8 oz. filet was a horrible cut and prepared not according to my temperature request as an unusual occurrence for this establishment, our server asked if everything was to our liking. I decided that after two small bites of my overcooked piece of what was to be a filet, that I would say something. Besides, I was paying $27 for it. The server was very kind and insisted on preparing another one for me. Next thing I know, the owner who is also the chef, is interrupting our business dinner with the plate that I returned in his hand and asked what was wrong with the filet. With the plate in my face, he proceeds to tell me that I should have returned the entree sooner. Apparently because I had taken two small bites and cut up the rest of my filet to try and enjoy at least one piece without sending it back, I was at fault. He did make me another filet and very rudely interrupted our conversation again as he pushed it in front of me. I must admit that I immediately had my server box up the perfectly prepared filet that was so rudely placed in front of me to take home. I can assure you that my dog enjoyed every bite that evening.
Will I return or recommend Mantini?s as I have done in the past? Absolutely not! Mr. Mantini, please do everyone in your establishment a favor and stay in the kitchen where you belong.
Fantastic steaks, Great service, We'll be going back. A close friend of mine recommended Mantini's as a good date restaurant, but when I looked it up here, I saw several unfavorable reviews. We decided to try it anyway, and boy are we lucky we did. The wait staff was training newbies when we were there, but were still attentive, courteous and personable. The decor and atmosphere was loft-like and felt lively; the fireplace was a nice touch and the open kitchen was a point of interest. We started off with the crab cake appetizer, which was large and done to perfection -- perfect for sharing. My date had the petite filet and I had the New York strip. Both were done to specification, juicy and delicious. My salad was fresh and the Caesar dressing tasted homemade. My date's side, the cheddar and bacon mashed potatoes were rich and delicious. Our waitress suggested that the house would like to buy us dessert on account of the long wait for our entrees to come out. We accepted, but really, we hadn't noticed. I felt the meal was well paced. I will definitely be going back and look forward to trying other dishes on their menu.
GREAT STEAKS. having had tried the rest of southside a friend suggested MANTINIS on carson,decor was stunning,waitress seemed well trained. the menue was limited so as a meat an potatoe guy that i am ,i choose the rib eye steak. Wow this steak was huge,an done right,very good cut of beef,side of "smashed potatoes with a salad...all in all we had a great meal an have returned several times to dine ( A MUST TRY )

My daughter and I just returned from dinner at Mantini's on Pittsburgh's South Side. She had salmon and I had steak, actually I ordered steak, two in fact, but ate neither.
My first steak of the night, a 24 oz T-bone, was ordered medium but came out extra well done. The first bite told the story so I made some cuts just to check and sure enough, it was severely over cooked. I folded my napkin and stared at the kitchen help and at the server as she passed by. Almost five minutes later she came out and asked how things were (she obviously didn't notice my steak was still whole). She apologized and took it back to the kitchen, saying they would fix it.
Ten minutes more and another steak came out, only this time it was "Pittsburgh Rare" not medium. By this time my daughter had finished her dinner and we were running tight on time to get to a show. Oh, I forgot to mention, we now had invested almost an hour and a half at this awful place, and I still had not had dinner. The server asked if I would like to speak with the chef and I said yes. I asked her to leave the plate so he could see the raw beef I was served.
When the chef appeared, well, I can sum up this guy in one word -- RUDE! He seemed completely put out someone had the nerve to complain about his food. He curtly said the meal would be on him, but then turned and walked away while I was still talking to him. Throwing up his hands he said loudly "that's all I can do!!" Gee, I thought he might like to know about the smashed potatos that had the consistency of soup or maybe the young fellow in the kitchen who was paying no attention to the meals he was preparing because he was talking with his buddies. Nope, not interested, guess that was "all he could do."
We decided "all we could do" was not go back, and, tell as many people as possible about our horrible experience.
Ribs are overrated. Although the atmosphere is nice, the ribs are overrated. It pains me to recommend a chain to someone, but you'd have a better chance of getting excellent ribs at Outback, Lone Star or Texas Roadhouse. Not worth the hassle of trying to find parking.
Beautiful remodel, terrible ribs, rude owner..
We just returned from a dinner at Mantini's at their new location on Carson St. and were anxious to try it out. We had been watching the progress of the remodel and were ecstatic at the prospect of more good food on the Southside.
I had a Penn Pilsner, my girlfriend opting for a Coke, and we both ordered a half-rack of ribs. Mine came with the sauteed spinach and homestyle baked beans as sides, which were both excellent. My girlfriends sides, cheddar and bacon smashed potatoes and southern-style green beans were good as well.
Now let me get to the ribs, their supposed "specialty." Both of our ribs were very dry, had a thick layer of charred carbon on the outside, and both were chock full of tendons and gristle. The only thing the ribs were lacking was, unfortunately, meat. The meat that was there was so dry I opted not to eat more than two ribs before I gave up and resorted to bread.
When the server asked us how the food was, we explained that the ribs were dry and overcooked, she sent out the owner of the restaurant. He was apparently unimpressed as he approached us by saying curtly: "Can I help you?" as if he was disgusted to have to leave the kitchen. When we explained to him in a sincere manner that our ribs weren't very good, he took the plates from us and told us "next time tell us right away." He was apparently upset that it took us 5 minutes to realize our ribs were terrible, and wanted us to figure it out sooner.
When our server returned, she explained that he would only take one entree off the check as one had been eaten too much. The sad part is, the only reason it looked like it had been eaten is because there was no meat on it to begin with.
All in all, the building was nice, the server was helpful, but the food was honestly not even worth eating, and the owner was rude and too proud of his ribs to understand that if he would have handled the situation a little more professionally I would have given them another chance.
