Someone home?. We drove for over an hour to come to this restaurant just to find it closed on a Friday night. There was no sign on the door. When you peeked through the window you could see paint cans and other renovation materials inside. NO note on the door just locked. It would have been nice to find a note on their very fancy looking website that they are not open. It would have saved us a long drive a big disappointment and angry moods!!!
unprofessional service, mediocre food, high prices.
This place offered a groupon, and treats everyone who tries to use one like a thief. They will sit and argue with customers at the table next to you, while you are trying to eat your food. I couldn't believe the way both the server and the manager talked to these people. Sounded to me like they got screwed.
Our food was was not great. Seems like they may have used old / freezer-burnt seafood. Curry was the only thing we liked. Nothing was worth the price we paid for it.
The redeeming quality of this place is the nice view of the cars stuck in traffic on Forbes Ave, if you get a window table. This isn't enough to bring us back again though.
The Steps are worth it. After walking up all those steps you will realize that it was all worth it when they bring you your food. The food is well prepared, well dished and plenty of it. If you like things very hot ask for the 10+ like i do. And they always ask me are you sure. A very nice place to sit back and relax and enjoy the food...
A great place for dinner.
This is a great place for a casual dinner. We've never been disappointed.
Thai friends note that the cuisine is not quite authentic (a bit too "nouveau" apparently) but that's not really the point: the food is great on its own terms.
On hotness: I always ask "what does the chef recommend?" or "what's the normal hotness for this dish?" but I never seem to get a straight answer. Sigh.
Excellent Curry. I had my first experience at Bangkok Balcony recently and will return again soon. The food was amazing and quick service. You can sit along the large window and people watch. Highly recommend for excellent thai food!
Great Thai food in Squirel Hill. The Bangkok Balcony has great food. The acoustics aren't great and we had a little trouble hearing our unassuming waitress, but the food made up for it. My boyfriend had curry (green, I think). He said it was rich and delicious. I had lemongrass noodles and although they were a tiny bit greasy, they tasted great. The crab rangoon was light and sweet. Service was exceptional, the entire staff colaborated to meet every single one of our needs. I paid an astonishing eight dollars for a mango mint mojito (wish I hadn't) and the beer wasn't cheap either, but overpriced alcohol is not unique to this, or any other place in Pittsburgh. Overall, it was an exceptional, medium priced meal. My boyfriend, who up until now claimed he didn't like Thai food, suggested we go back.
Editorial Review by Christy Buena. Authentic Thai cuisine is the specialty at the restaurant that serves appetizers, soups, salads and curry in a cool atmosphere.
