Editorial Review for Market Street Ale House – by Kristy Graver
In Short
At Market Street Ale House you'll find everyone from businessmen to college kids indulging their inner-beer snobs at the big, mahogany bar. Choose from over 15 draft beers and a mind-boggling array of bottled microbrews and imports from Belgium, Scotland, Germany, and Ireland (yellow, fizzy, frat party stand-bys are also available upon request.) Once you've wet your whistle with expensive suds, order up some fried pub fare like cheese fries, chicken crisps, and hot wings.

I'm not sure if the last reviewer cares much about beer but the Ale House has a huge selection of beer. I was just there for lightup night and the beer selection surpassed my hopes. They had about 12 different Dogfish brews alone including all of the super strong ones (120 minute, worldwide, old school, raison d' extra, midas touch) they also had over 30 belgian bottles and 5 belgian taps. If you are a real beer drinker that knows their beer this is the place to go. It is reasonably priced as well.
Pros: alot of beer, ambience

The selling point to the Ale House is definitely the beer selection. I was surprised, though, to find that it is quite average when compared to many other Pittsburgh beer bars. If you are a beer drinker who values selection, you may be disappointed here. Other than that, the food is pretty bad. Each time I have gone I have tried something different and every time it is really quite bad. It reminds of what you might get on a river cruise, or a minor league baseball game. Other than that, the service is also lacking unless you are sitting at the bar (the bartenders tend to be good). So, if you are downtown and you must have your Delirium Tremens, then go. But eat someplace else first and sit at the bar the Ale House.
Pros: Beer selection is decent
Cons: Food, service
