Classic city experience. Rude staff, manager ready to steal and rob u off how much ever he can. No business ethic.
Initially everything appears ok to start with. Ok with neatness and facilities.
But as the night descends u understand why its inhabitable. Its located opp. UPMC Presby Hosp - with sirens of constant ambulance, cops, ems, bikers and chopers it almost feels u r living at a ER or road intersection. The window insulation is so bad u hear everthing. Infact since the city bus stops in front of the building, u can hear it stop and start every 15min, i could hardly get any sleep any day. Pittsburgh busiest roads - forbes and 5th ave run on either sides of the building.
You can hardly fall sleep before woken up by one of the sounds.
Upon bringing this to apt staffs notice they said this is what u expect in city and offered no solution. Infact i couldnt ever meet the manager in person, staff say he lives out of state. They hardly give any respect to the customer.
There is no staff in building after 11pm, i got lock out on my day 1, as forgot my pass key and spent the whole night sitting in a chair in front of the reception. Called the emergency contact -but no response. Upon bringing this to their attention, they tell me i should be more careful with my key and should not expect them to help me after hours. Though it says a hotel no services, infact the manager yells saying its my fault not to cary my keys.
Instead of try to fix the problem (insulation), they bullied me into living there for 1 yr as i signed the contract. They made me pay 4months rent for the month i lived . They robbed me off my money - never refunded my security deposit or my last month rent. I had to approach an attorney to help me to vacate this place.
So beware of the place, the people (staff) and enter at your own risk.
Customer Service. Staff needs to be trained in customer service. In particularly, blonde girl during daytime shift. She's rude, condescending, arrogant, non-empathetic to customers' needs. A staff is key to any business operation because it represents that business, and if the staff treats you well the customer will come back again and again. If the staff is like the blonde, they'll tell everyone they know don't come to this hotel as I will. Aside from this the water pressure in the bathroom is so low you don't know how th toilet flushes. Also big permanent brown rings in toilet bowl. The neon sign on the building gives the hotel the appearance of a house of ill repute (it's pretty tacky). It's extremely expensive to stay here for this location. Oh, did I mention that there is no air. Parking provided by hotel for $10 daily is also used by native Pittsburghers who clog the lot in the daytime blocking your way.
OK Stay. Came to Pittsburgh for Pitt's family weekend to visit our sophomore Panther. Last year, stayed downtown, but wanted to stay local this year. All major hotels were closed out, so I was excited to find Forbes Avenue Suites had a "deluxe" 2-bedroom suite available. Well, first of all, nothing is mentioned that you access the room from an outdoor walkway. And there is NOTHING deluxe/luxury about the place. It appears to be an old apartment building converted to a hotel. There are modern amenities (cable TV with HBO, microwave, free wireless), but the smell when we walked in the door reminded me of the smell of a grandma's house--maybe it's the comforters that appear to have been purchased at a garage sale. The interior is nowhere near as nice as their website shows. Overall, though, I would describe it as sufficient--it was very clean and appliances/electronics were all functioning. Would be a great place to stay long-term, if you needed nearby hospital facilities.
Awesome Pizza on 5th avenue. My boyfriend and I made a trip to Pittsburgh to the upmc falk medical building inwhich I was very nervous about. We decided to go the day before and chose to stay at the FAS. We were very impressed with the rooms and the customer service that we decided to stay an extra night! The rooms were very clean and made you feel right at home! The customer service was excellent and very helpful with directions for where we needed to go! I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It is very close to main attractions and walking distance to the major hospitals. This was very convienent for me seeing that I come from a very small town and don't have to deal with alot of traffic....so we could walk to everywhere we needed to be! We plan on coming back just to hang out and enjoy some of the restraunts and just walking around the city to see what all it has to offer! Besides that we are big steeler fans so that made it all the better!!! We look forward to seeing you again! And thank you for the great stay!! Alice "Jeannie" Gill
Reservations are NOT guaranteed. I was scheduled to stay at the FAS in June 2007. However, four days prior to my arrival, FAS contacted me to indicate that they "must cancel my reservation". No explanation was given, although I later learned that the cancellation was due to a "medical necessity". My reservation was made over 4 months in advance, and finding lodging initially took several days and dozens of phone calls (due to the U.S. Open being held in Pittsburgh). To further complicate the situation, I was traveling with friends whose reservation at FAS was NOT cancelled. This left me to find two hotel rooms less than four days ahead of my arrival. Several attempts to communicate and resolve the issue with FAS went unanswered. Their final resolution left my friends staying at their hotel, and me staying downtown over 4 miles away. In my opinion, they handled the situation quite poorly. Stay there if you must, but be warned. I would NOT expect satisfactory service... if your reservation is even honored at all.
This is not a hotel as much as it is a home away from home.....
We spent a week at the Forbes Avenue Suites. This hotel is a renovated 4 story apartment building on the outskirts of Oakland. The Forbes Avenue Suites is not an elegant hotel, there is no restaurant and the elevator does not work. HOWEVER...if you are looking for a clean, suite-style hotel, THIS IS THE PLACE. First, I must say that the staff at this hotel is outstanding. They are friendly, accommodating, and make you feel right at home...especially Rebecca. One staff member even offered to call her sister to find the answer to a travel question I had. We stayed in a deluxe 2 bedroom suite. The room was up a small flight of stairs, on the first floor. The room was very clean. It had a decent sized living room, a large dining room table and a kitchen with full sized appliances, including A GAS STOVE, dishwasher and large fridge. There was even a garbage disposal. The bathroom was clean and nice-sized. Our bedrooms were very nice. We had a large room with a King bed, and the other room had a queen. Each bedroom had a full closet with mirrored sliding doors. For an extended stay, this is the place to be.
If you know Oakland, it is the heart of Pitt and Carnegie Mellon University, as well as the home to several medical centers. You can walk to everything, including some decent restaurants like Joe Mama's Italian, or the Original Hot Dog, and several great coffee shops. You are close to the world famous Carnegie Museum of Natural History, as well as several other museums and the Cathedral of Learning. Parking at the hotel was a flat 10.00 per day, but you could come and go as you please. The person responsible for parking also worked in the hotel, so you get to know him and he is a great guy.
Unless you are looking for the William Penn Hotel, this place is a super value, and well worth the money. The location is great as we were minutes from all extended parts of Pittsburgh like kennywood, the Strip and Point State Park.
