Tips for Memory Lane Photography

January 07, 2009

Not a Walk Down Memory Lane. My husband and I initially hired Mr. Poli because his services were moderately priced. He explained that we should get rid of the receiving line; when we alked around to the tables at the wedding reception, he would pictures of us with everyone that attended. He never did this. We invited 100 people and have multiple pictures of my husband's family, but very few of mine. This bothered me since my immediate family literally sat at one table, and my husband's (he is the youngest of seven), had many pictures taken of his family. People we invited from work and most of our friends were never photographed. He mainly focused on the wedding party.

In addition, my father is deceased, and my husband's mom died a week before we were married. We had a memory table. Mr. Poli never took a picture of this table, but chose to take pictures of the crash being rolled out, table decortaions, etc.

Before he took our wedding photos, my husband told Mr. Poli he did not want a parent album. Mr. Poli was at first resistent and suggested throwing in extra photos.

Fianlly, when I got the proofs, I was embarrased and angry. Angry because he did not take the pictures he said he would take, and embarassed because my family would find out there were either no pictures of them, or very few.

I called Mr. Poli two times in the course of several months, but he never returned my calls. My husband asked him why he did not take these pictures. Mr. Poli said we had to explicitly tell him what pictures we wanted to have taken. This is not what he said when we met with him. He said that when we walked around, he would take pctures of everyone we met with. The photographer should know whom the bride's mother and immediate family happen to be. In addition, he knew my husband's mother just died. Wouldn't he realize the memory table might be important ? I guess we had to tell him that too. My advice...find someone else and make less stress for yourself on you wedding day.
