Best Mexican in the Area. I don't know. I've never had Mexican food from other states, nor have I had authentic Mexican. Nonetheless, I think Veracruz is an amazing place to eat in the Oakland area. I get the grande-sized steak quesadilla and I've thoroughly enjoyed it every time. The portions are respectable, especially given the cheap prices. What makes it more incredible is that fact that they continue to offer this despite the kind of money run-of-the-mill Qdoba is making across the street. You can enjoy whatever you order with a slew of hot and mild sauces and even cool down with an authentic Mexican beverage (or pop, should you want that). To top it all off, the restaurant has two TVs with true Mexican programming. Ok, so I don't understand Spanish, and I'm certainly not interested in Soap Operas, but I think it really adds to the experience. If you're in the Oakland area looking for a cheap, delicious bite, then I would highly recommend Veracruz.
Poor excuse for authentic Mexican food. I'm Mexican-American, and I've had great food in Texas, California, and Washington State. This is extremely bland, quick, and boring food. My fiance and I make better Mexican food than this in 15 minutes. I was expecting some great authentic food, but I got some microwaved meat in a soft tortilla with tasteless salsa.
VERACRUZ!.
My coworker who is Mexican highly reccommends Veracruz, "...tastes like home....so authentic" ingredients used to make the dough for burritos and quesadillas are very fresh. Order a steak quesadilla and you won't be disappointed!! Only order the large if you are REALLY HUNGRY!
They use white Mexican cheeses in theri dishes.
They also have a grocer on Semple street !
Best Mexican food in Oakland in my opinion!
Mexicali Soup.
Senoras y senoritas. Time to fill your mouth hole with tasty treats from south of the border.
I know you are going to protest, "But me and my buddies are on our way to a frat party and want to get a quick Mexican bite from across the street at Qdoba Grill."
If you like that tasteless, char-grilled pap, go ahead. You and your frat buddies probably deserve it.
Everyone else, please cross the street and eat some tasty, fresh chicken tacos. Go ahead and buy two - they're cheap. I've never had a bad bite here except for the somewhat underwhelming fish tacos. Try them too, you might like them better than I do. If you have any friends, let them in on the secret of Veracruz too.
