Editorial Review for Prelude Wine Bar – by Kristy M. Graver
The Scene
Nestled in a corner of the lobby, Prelude may limit seating to six cushy stools, but the magnificence of the spaces gives it a much larger feel. White marble walls, mosaic tile floors, a grand staircase and a 30-foot glass-and-cast-iron atrium elevate this bar far above your local watering hole. Catering mostly to hotel guests and theatergoers, it's the perfect starting point for a night on the town.
The Draw
Prelude offers 70 different wines by the glass, ranging from new vintages to old favorites. Pours are large (six ounces) and affordably priced. Wines are discounted considerably if the bottle is open more than a few days. And fear not, wine novices, you don't have to worship Dionysus to appreciate this wine bar: The helpful and dedicated staff is always willing to offer a recommendation. For a little pre-opera snack, order a cheese board, fried calamari or crab cakes.
