Editorial Review for Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel – by Gayot.com

The Scene
A member of Historic Hotels of America, this beautiful 1906 building sits on the Allegheny River. Its impressive rotunda lobby area is decorated in traditional European style and features mosaic tiles, lots of marble and a majestic double staircase. Given the luxuriousness of this place, its starting rates are exceptional.

The Details
The bedrooms are classic, done in muted blue, cream and coffee tones. Dark wood furnishings give them a dignified air. The Phipps Presidential Suite is like a small apartment, with spacious living and dining areas. Business travelers are well catered to with amenities such as work desks, two-line phones, speaker phones, voice mail, data ports and high-speed Internet access. Rooms also come with CD players and Sony PlayStations. The Bridge Bar and Prelude Wine Bar maintain the classic look of the property, while Opus Restaurant offers a departure, with its brightly painted walls. There is a nicely equipped fitness room, which is open 24 hours, and guests are also offered passes to Bally Total Fitness.

The Renaissance Pittsburgh is one of my favorite hotels in the United States. I have averaged well over one hundred nights per year in luxury hotels for many years and have continued to find this hotel to be a warm inviting place for business and personal needs. I have stayed in the Renaissance at least three times per year since it opened and seen it only improve. The rooms have all been spacious and well appointed with the little touches (Chocolates, spring water, extra soft towels) that make the experience much more enjoyable. The extremely high ceilings in the rooms and the number of windows provide a feeling of airiness and space that many hotel rooms lack. They are rooms that you can look forward to going back to after a long day. I would, and have, recommended this hotel to business and personal guests and have had nothing but wonderful reviews. It has helped to change somewhat antiquated views of the region to visitors. Keep up the excellent work in this gem of a hotel.

Pros: Atmosphere, Ambiance, Staff

Cons: The price has been increasing but still a good value
