BEST CORNED BEEF EVER!!. I had the BEST Corned Beef sandwich I have ever had in my life. More specifically it was called the "Rachel." This heavenly treat consisted of Corned beef, coleslaw (homemade, of course), 1000 Island dressing and melted swiss cheese on Rye bread. It was grilled to perfection...possibly the best lunch I have had in years, if not ever. Would I recommend to others...what do you think? RUN do not WALK to the Smallman Street Deli for this sandwich.
Delicious Deli!. I love the quirkyness of this restaurant! The menu is fantastic with lots of choices and the staff is there to please! My meal was hot and the portions are huge!!! Definately worth your money and time to give this great little secret a shot!
Amazing!. Hands down the best sandwich in Pittsburgh. They stack the deli meat high and the quality, especially the corn beef, is fantastic. If you have any room left in your stomach after lunch, I highly recommend their homemade cookies. I can't wait to go back!
best deli experience i've had in a while!. As soon as you walk into this 'New York Style Deli' it takes you there... only cleaner, yummier and friendlier! The food is far superior than other deli foods in the area. I recommend the Rachel or create just about any sandwich you are in the mood for and get it served hot w/ one of the gourmet cheeses. If you are not in the mood for a sandwich they offer a plethora of sides and salads that taste like they're right out of mom's kitchen. And if that doesn't satisfy you... you have to try one of Evie's Cookies for dessert. The servers are friendly and the owners know you by name. I love this place!
The meat and cheeses are dry. The food is below average and overpriced. 8.00 for a corned beef sandwich! This isn't NYC and neither is the food comparison.
The positive reviews are fake, they all have the same date..
I was excited to have a sandwich shop in the strip where I could walk from my workplace. However, the prices have increased and the quality and service have decreased. The meat and cheese no longer taste fresh.
I tried Smallman again in the east and it is not worth the visit either. Also to repeat this place totally made up their own positive reviews. Look at the dates on the good reviews, they are all the same!
Overpriced and the latkes were nasty!. The meat is fatty and the sandwiches are on slices of bread that taste like spounges. The lettuce was wilted and the tomatoes were mushy.
The Strip's been calling for a sandwich shop of this caliber..
Happy eaters stand elbow to elbow around tables converted from barrels in this stand-up deli. Trays of pickles and sour tomatoes are on the table to accompany big meals. Chalkboards with menus sit above a long service counter, with hand-written signs offering daily specials. Service is made-to-order, but remains fast and friendly.
This is a true kosher-style deli. Meats are processed in the factory behind the restaurant, and are steamed for each sandwich. The corned beef, pastrami, and roast beef are all stacked up on excellent rye bread (or you can opt for six other break, roll, and bagel choices). The "Reuben and Rachel" (grilled sandwiches filled with corned beef, Swiss Cheese, sauerkraut or coleslaw) are over-sized and difficult to finish, because of size, not quality. The matzoh ball soup is a great starter, available in cup, bowl, or quart to take home. Potato latkes (fried pancakes), are heavy but not cement, and are served with a choice of applesauce or sour cream. There are hand-cut fries, noodle kugel, even cheese blintzes and and potato knishes.
Love it!. I absolutely love this place. They have unbelieveable sandwiches that do not claim to be NY style, but in a way they really are. A half of sandwich is a meal. The food is fresh and everyone is just so friendly. I love this place so much. Lunch is the only time I have been there. Not much seating.
