quasi nyc. one thing great to say about dish is "they get it"= it's the only better restaurant in pittsburgh where you can walk in after midnight and still eat dinner. that's as close to nyc as you will find in pgh. always enjoyed the staff and atmosphere the most.

My favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh!. Excellent food and great service! My absolute favorite in Pittsburgh. Very intimate setting. They have really good Italian food.

The prices are moderate. Street parking is pretty easy to find.

best italian food in the burgh. nice cosy restaurant located in the backstreets of the southside servers up delicious authentic italian dishes. their penne with procuito is absolutely delicious. for desert save room for tiramisu!!

Fantastic. My husband and I visited this restaurant on a recent snowy night. We did not have reservations, but were seated right away. We were greeted by friendly staff as soon as we entered, and let to a table by a window, which was perfect. The atmosphere was intimate and cool....kinda NYC. We ordered salads, which arrived quickly along with bread, which was FANTASTIC! I got the salmon, my husband got the filet. The salmon was possibly the best I have ever had...not overcooked, tender, just delicious. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his filet. The food arrived at the table still steaming hot....which always scores points with me but doesn't seem to happen much. We got tiramisu for dessert. I could only fit in a few bites, but it, as well, was wonderful. The service was incredibly fast...but I don't know if it was because it was very slow due to the weather and the somewhat late (9 PM) hour. We were out of there in about an hour. But really, I would not have minded if the service wasn't so fast since the atmosphere was cool and I was enjoying a night out with my husband.

Sicilian Style.. Simply the Best. This establishment has 'cool' nailed. The atmosphere brings out the best in the patrons, enveloping them in a casual warmth that exudes charm. And that description doesn't get you passed the bar; when you do venture into dining, the flavor erupts. This is a special night out for those who enjoy cool charm.

Best Italian in Pittsburgh. In the friendly and cozy environment of this small restaurant, I was pleased to find authentic delicacies, honestly matching those of best restaurant in Italy itself - I know what I am talking about. The delicious squids I had for starters had been unmistakably ccooked in the Italian way. The linguine with seafood were amazing, as they surpassed my brightest expectations after such a great starter. The crescendo was completed by the dessert, which was in a word superb. Their tiramisu is a must-try. Although the menu is not too long, the astounding quality definitely compensates for that. If you visit Pittsburgh, it would be a shame not to pay a visit to this little paradise for the palate.

best eat of the year. WOW sums up the Dish. I had never heard of it, but im soo glad my brother suggested it, it was a wonderful atmosphere with amazingly authentic and delicous food. I really enjoyed our waiter who was from Italy, it was really nice to chat w/ him. overall one of the best restaraunts in Pittsburgh

awsome authenticity. I've lived in Italy, and the food at this place come closer than anything in Pittsburgh to the real thing. Of course, it doesn't hurt if you speak Italian as some of the folks who run the place grew up in Italy. (I often get a smooch on the cheek when I go.) I highly recommend the Melezane (sp?) grilia e mozzarella. This dish takes eggplant to a whole new level. I also recommend the Carpaccio for the brave of heart. (You'll see what I mean when you get there.) They recognize repeat customers and always give personal, yet professional service. And the food really is THAT good--if you are one for simplicity and enjoy the European diet methods. :)

Formerly McCann's, now informally great.. The Name
Dish, the word, can be defined as the act of dispensing juicy gossip, a slightly upturned container for serving food or a good-looking woman. Dish, the bar and osteria (an Italian word that eludes exact translation, but roughly means a "gathering place," similar to an Irish pub), is to some the "latest thing," while others find it simply a bar with good drinks at great prices without the crowds two blocks away on Carson. Some of the original McCann's flavor has been maintained--including a guardian leprechaun--and the building has been restored to its former architectural glory.


The Food
The menu is made up mostly of appetizers, with three or four main courses on any given night. The pasta e fagioli soup is thick and rich; mussels and shrimp are also great. A nice option for the group is formaggi e salumi, an assortment of three or four meats and salamis, as well as three pungent and delicious cheeses. As a dessert, don't miss the creme Catalana, the Italian version of creme brulee.

To good to be true. I have ate at Dish many times the food there is to die for. The chef always surprises me with the beauty of his plates. Everyone should go there and try it out you'll love it!!
