Editorial Review for Laforet – by Sam Edelmann
The Scene
The restaurant is a converted home, with dining rooms on both floors. The interior is quiet and understated, allowing diners to focus on the fine food. Service is attentive without smothering diners.
The Food
Updated classical French. Hors d'oeuvres include game pate en croute with venison, boar and squab, and white bean cassoulet with duck confit and smoked pork served in a puff pastry. The warm potato leek tart topped with grated truffles is exceptional. Main courses range from salmon in shallot cream sauce to seared venison tenderloin with roasted chestnuts. The menu gourmand--a five-course prix fixe--varies based on availability of product and whim of the chef, but includes an appetizer, salad, fish and meat courses, and a dessert medley. Excellent desserts made by Gina Swanson, the in-house pastry chef. Her creations are both delicious and visually appealing, and make for a great ending to an exceptional meal.

Of all the restaurants in Pittsburgh, this one is by far the best. After tyring many of the "fine dining" places in the city and being disappointed with mostly all of them, it was a relief to finally find a place that knows quality food and what a fine dining experience should be. As close to great food and service that one could get in Pittsburgh.
Pros: Ambience. Quality of food. Exceptional service.
Cons: May be pricey for some but worth every penny.
