Tennis, softball, hiking trails and a children's playground, all on 480 acres in Squirrel Hill..
The Appeal
Upper Frick Park is home to the 150-acre Frick Woods Nature Reserve, and thanks to a reintroduction planting effort, this is a premier wildflower location, perhaps the best in the city. A wide variety of native wildflowers can be seen here, from coneflowers to violets, depending on the season. What makes this park so interesting is that it is a true urban retreat: woodsy, idyllic, solitary, yet nestled right within the 'Burgh.
Features
Look forward to a day full of sporty activities, sweat and sun. Bring your swimsuit, your tennis racket or your hiking boots so you can explore the shaded trails. In winter, the hiking trails are used for cross-country skiing. The park is noted for its distinguished architecture, which is the work of John Russell Pope, the same gentleman who designed the Lincoln Memorial.
