A Downtown Pittsburgh Hidden Legend. I've gone to the Tic-Toc at least twice a month since I was five, even more since i started attending university nearby, and i've never had a bad service experience. The waitresses are mostly old veterans, the food is always good, and the prices are reasonable. Their deserts are especially tasty. Plus, you can't really beat the ambience-the Downtown Pittsburgh Macy's is an olllllllllld department store, and the Tic-Toc has remained a popular restaraunt for many decades. as well it deserves to be.
Needs Work. Tic Toc Rest. This rest has poetinal to be a good family rest they just need more waiters and waitress like this young lady her name starts with a J thats all i remember. the food was ok my fries was cold waiters was smoking talking loud. they need to be more professional. its a nice placew to take your kids on a sat morning to grab a waffle.
Good food, Fast service, Cold potatoes. When I got there, we were seated immediately, and the service was prompt. We were given our beverages in about 2 minutes. The food was good, but the potatoes were hard and cold. Overall, this experience was really good.
Terrible Service!. We came in around 4 pm. The restaurant wasn't crowded, but the staff was completely oblivious to us. After 10 minutes we sat ourselves at the counter, where the waitresses chit chatted, rather than ask us for our order. After 10 more minutes, we got our beverages, and after our food arrived, we never saw our waitress until the check arrived! The food was mediocre, considering I needed ketchup the whole time, and never got it!
A classic tea room and restaurant..
The Scene
Tucked into the first floor of Kaufmann's flagship store, Tic Toc is the traditional meeting place for downtown shoppers, office workers and ladies who lunch. There is a table area, plus the biggest lunch counter I have ever seen. For the most part, it's known for breakfast and lunch, but afternoon tea offers special sandwiches and desserts. Breakfast is nice and often quiet. Lunch gets busy, but the veteran waitresses handle the regulars and newcomers with warmth and charm.
The Food
The food is surprisingly good, the soups are delicious and the hamburgers here have been written up in books and national publications. Specials of the day are large portions and run toward entrée with sides of vegetables and a roll. Desserts, especially the ice cream-based combos, are timeless and out-of-sight.
