Green forest don't get me wrong is a nice palce, but way too expensive. Maybe it's just because I come from Massachusetts where they have Brazilian and it's roughly $10.00 a plate for buffet.
Don't waste your money!.
Last month my husband and I went to a restaurant like this one in Niagara Falls called Copacabana. It was so delicious that we looked to see if there was anything like it in Pittsburgh. We found Green Forest online and were excited about trying it out, especially after reading the reviews. What a HUGE OVER-PRICED DISAPPOINTMENT!
We paid $40 per person in Niagara as well, but the meat there was spiced and cooked to perfection. The pineapple was served the same way as the meat, brought around to our table and freshly carved from the skewer. It was a fresh pineapple with maybe brown sugar and cinnamon spices...? What we were served last night was barely spiced fatty pieces of meat. The pineapple was like tasteless cardboard. It's a shame how much food we discarded especially for what we paid. I will say that the servers and bartender were friendly, but that was about the only good part of our experience.
We never write reviews, but we could not and cannot believe how this place got as many good reviews as it has. Our guess is that there's no other place like this near Pittsburgh to compare it to. Pittsburghers, if you have a passport and 4 hours, the drive to Canada is well worth it instead of wasting your time and your money on this place.
AMAZING ! ! !. Just got back from celebrating my friends birthday with my wife and 5 or so other couples. Excellent, friendly and polite service as well as an up-beat, cozy atmosphere. I could write about the deliciousness of the food for hours but I will summarize by saying that it is a meat lovers paradise. The buffet consisting of seafood, salad, soups, bread and cheese was of a great variety and prepared in very unique ways. Everything was to a very high quality and freshness! I had a wonderful evening. Thank you!
RELAXED & FUN.
This is our favorite "treat" restaurant. We go here about 6-8 times a year. The grilled meat is fantastic - great selection and very flavorful.
My husband really likes the 'hot bar' for potato, rice, beans and fish. I love the cold bar - especially the marinated portabella mushrooms, asparagus and olives. Friends love the sushi and cold seafood selections. There's a cheese board and bread... don't forget soup...
Are you full yet? Well the desserts are lovely, although we've never had "room"!
The staff is quite attentive to drinks and plates and interacts with you as much as you like regarding the food selections and preparations.
MMMMM, love the Green Forest!
Fantastico!.
I've been here many times and every time was great!
I'm from Argentina so this is the closest it will get to my homeland food.
It's an all you can eat buffet plus all you can eat meat. You can get either one. The regular buffet (without the "asado" meat) has a lot to choose from. This is *not* your typical all-you-can-eat buffet!!
So, So!.
The Atmosphere and Decor
This was my first experience at the Green Forest. I heard and read many good things about them and decided to try it. Once we arrived, I was shocked about the decor and atmosphere. I guess after eating at Texas de Brazil and Fogo de Chao you expect a certain decor and astmosphere. It felt like a cafeteria setting.
No Alcohol?
As soon as were seated, we asked for the wine list and our waitress said they do not serve alcohol, but we do accept BYOB. After spending an hour in the car to get their, we said "What, are you kidding us?". Basically, to enjoy a glass of red wine, I had to leave the Green Forest for the nearest wine & spirits store. Oh, there is a $3.50 corking fee.
The Salad Bar
It had hot and cold items at their salad bar. Cheeses, sliced meates, crab leggs, shrimp, salad fix'ins, oysters on the half shell, etc. I wouldn't say this was the best salad bar, but the cold items looked and tasted fresh. Also, the quality of the items was good.
The Meat
Their were sixteen different meats (e.g., top sirloin, filet mignon, parmesan crusted filet mignon, chicken, turkey, sausage, skirt, flank, lamb, etc.) that were brought to our table. The quality of meet was good. Some of the meat seemed well done at times, but overall was a good and a good flavor.
Service
The service was slow at times, but good and hospitable. The waitress kept us motivated and constantly kept giving us new plates. Overall, the service was good.
Conclusion
Overall, the experience was good, but for the $49.00 (including tax and tip) I paid, I guess I would have rather spent this at Texas de Brazil or Fogo de Chao.
Horrible!!. I have been to Green Forest several times. July 08 and October 08. The first visit was outstanding. Julie was our waitress and she was wonderful. She was intuitive and friendly. She explained the process to us and got our drinks. I had the Brazilian Cherry Ginger ale and it was to die for. Service & food was wonderful. She came around at all the right times. She was just overall great. The second time we came in it was on a Saturday and it was a horrible experience, not only was service bad, but the owner was rude. Our waitress was Sada or something like that. She was bossy, rude, and pushy. She seemed to act as though we were idiots when she explained the process to us even after we told her we were returning customers. As my wife and I talked while we waited for our drinks, she slammed our drinks on our table and walked away. Never to return for refills. From my understanding new plates is a big thing with them. The owner was walking around the tables, checking customers and when she came to our table she basically took our plates even after we had told her that we were not done. I practically rushed my food into my mouth while she just grabbed it away. I asked one of the bussers (?) if Julie was there and she said that Julie was no long with them, which is a bummer. She was a great waitress, an asset to their company. I will NEVER go back to Green Forest and anyone that asks me about the restaurant I will not recommend it. The owner was inconsiderate and the waitress? are not very professional.
letting all that delicious meat slip out of your life just because of a waitress that had a bad day...tisk tisk...
Yes, food was great!.
My friends and I were in town for business. We went to Green Forest based on the good reviews. The food was great. Some of the meats were fatty but you don?t have to eat them all. We were there at 7:00 pm on a Saturday. It was a busy evening; we didn?t have to ask for meats. The cold buffet was not outstanding, just ok. The service was very good, too. The waitress was attentive and friendly. The price was more than fair; something like $30 per person, except drinks. We recommend going on a Sat night. It was just perfect!
Pros: Good meat, and service.
Cons: none
Great Night Out. This restaurant was great. We went to a place like this in Aruba, and it was every bit as good as the one there.
