The scene for being seen, shoppers appreciate Shadyside's upscale ambience, as well as its good restaurants..
The Scene
Everyone agrees Shadyside is not the way it was, and they've been saying that for nearly 30 years. Once a mini-Greenwich Village with funky boutiques and bars, Shadyside is now a high-priced shopping area. The shopping area is largely concentrated in a three-block diameter along Walnut Street. Most stores are open 10am-5pm, Monday through Saturday, and until 8pm on Wednesday.
The Stores
Some of the best restaurants are off Walnut Street, but they are definitely worth the walk. Casbah offers French, Italian and Spanish cuisine, plus more than 20 wines by the glass. Cafe Zinho is a former garage turned bistro that features continental meals. Bellini presents contemporary Mediterranean cuisine and Soba is a hip spot serving Pan-Asian food. For shopping, a large Banana Republic begins one end of Walnut. Kards Unlimited is next door, displaying fabulous cards, some discreetly--this is definitely not a Hallmark shop. Moda for men's fashion, Williams-Sonoma, Four Winds Gallery, Rolliers Hardware, Glassworks and Roberta Weissburg Leathers follow.
