Editorial Review for Melwood Screening Room – by Manny Thiener
The Skinny
As an educational institution, Pittsburgh Filmmakers offers a complete, accredited training program in film, video and photography for students at the University of Pittsburgh. Its main office moved several years ago to a converted industrial space on the extreme north end of Oakland, a block past the Graffiti nightclub.
The Screen
The Melwood Screening Room on the second floor runs a program of indepdendent fare, including animated and experimental films that would not otherwise be seen locally, with Tuesday's Film Kitchen--spotlighting Pittsburgh-made film and video--attracting particularly high interest. College students can get in on some cheap movie action by buying a $20 membership, which entitles them to five movies and five buckets of popcorn.

A great place to see films you usually can't see in Pittsburgh - not exactly a revelation about this place, but I thought it was worth a review.
